Review: Jennifer’s Kitchen Pepper Jelly

Guys, Jennifer from Jennifer’s Kitchen sent me over two things of her Pepper Jelly and….let me just start from the top.

Jennifer Lee of Jennifer’s Kitchen produces all natural fresh pepper jellies, right here in Birmingham, AL. So, of course when this opportunity arose I jumped to work with a fellow Hamian. She has several delicious flavors, including the Peach and Strawberry she sent me. They did not disappoint. Mychal and I made two separate dishes with these for the SEC Championship game, and they both came out so good!

Quick, Flavorful Cracker Appetizers

So first, I made these really simple cracker hors d’oeuvres with the Strawberry Pepper Jelly. They pack a nice amount of flavor into a small bite, do not be fooled by the size.

To make these literally takes 10 minutes. I grabbed a box of TownHouse Italian Herb Crackers, a cucumber, a package of goat cheese and the jelly. Then I just layer. I layered the cucumber on top of the cracker, topped it with a bit of goat cheese and finished off with a bit of the strawberry jelly. Pop them into the fridge for a few minutes and let the flavors meld and serve when ready.dsc_0322

Let me say this, I love to get my money’s worth when I buy something and I would gladly purchase these jellies over and over. The small dollop of jelly on the top of the cracker was soooo flavorful and went a long way. In just a small bit of this you get a really nice balance of sweet and a small bit of spice. (Note: I am not a spicey food girl and I wanted to pour this jelly over my entire life so don’t let the spice make you apprehensive.)dsc_0348

BBQ Pork Sandwiches with Peach Pepper Jelly BBQ Sauce

Now, this is when I was sold. Jennifer actually has a recipe for this on her website! But if you know Mychal, you know he is a custom made kind of guy :)! Mychal put on a boston butt on to slow cook that morning. When we got home after errands, he started on a homemade BBQ sauce. The sauce recipe was a standard recipe that you can find on Google or Pinterest. He made that tweaking it to his liking, of course. Then, he added about two teaspoons of the peach pepper jelly into about of two cups of BBQ sauce. Y’all. I wanted to throw out every store bought BBQ I have ever bought. The pepper jelly combined perfectly with the honey giving the sauce a sweet undertone while simultaneously taking the kick in it up a notch. It was amazingly delicious. I use BBQ sauce for baked potatoes so I’m quite particular about it. When its on a potato the sauce has to carry its own. This! This! Yes! Saying the sandwiches were a hit that night would be a major understatement.

After the roast was done slow cooking, Mychal simply shredded it and mixed it with the sauce. He toasted up some buns and dinner was served.

Review

Just to be frank with you guys, I did not expect to like this. I knew Mychal would love it and I figured there was a chance I might. The spicy factor made me nervous. I am so glad that Jennifer was gracious enough to send these over to me because I will be a devoted customer! Get your hands on this jelly. It’s sweet, spicy and a great product to keep in the kitchen. I can imagine plenty of ways to use it,whether for the holidays or summer night parties. Jennifer also has several ideas over on her site. Jennifer’s Kitchen is sold in local grocery stores and online. To find some near you just go to her website here!
